What to Pack for Hawaii: A Shoppable Packing List
As we were getting ready for our Honeymoon to Kauai and Maui, the travel bug is really kicking in. It had been a while since we really got lost and explored a new corner of the world and it’s beyond time to get back out there. We knew it was going to be difficult to beat our Azores adventure last fall, but we couldn’t wait to compare those volcanic islands in the Atlantic with these volcanic islands in the Pacific. With the tickets booked, the only thing left to do was to figure out what to pack for Hawaii.
Donald and I have a habit of finding our way to islands, so exploring the western most state seemed like a fitting place for our honeymoon. It’s amazing that after spending 13+ hours on planes, we’ll still be in the United States. No currency exchange, no languages to learn, no adapters, no worrying about cell-phone-data usage. This was all part of the plan. We wanted to truly relax and not fuss over the details of the day-to-day.
We also couldn’t wait to explore the food culture. Halfway between east and west, there must be some truly exciting food innovations happening on these tiny islands. Donald is excited to see Spam (Glorious Spam!) used in new ways. Spam Musubi looks to be the classic Hawaiian dish that so may people rave about, which features this magical mystery meat. Can. Not. Wait. For Spam Musubi.
While the food definitely had my attention, I also was excited to pack for this trip! Tropical climates call for loud colors and breathable fabrics. But since we’ll be splitting our time between hiking volcanoes and lounging around resorts, the wardrobe needed to be fashionable, comfortable, and versatile.
As always, I aim to avoid anything that says “I’M A TOURIST!” …and that’s why researching local garb was priority #1.
What to Pack for Hawaii
After traipsing around the internet – including a lengthy stop at my go-to site for fashion advice: Travel Fashion Girl – this is what I decided to pack for Hawaii:
Top to Pack for Vacation in Hawaii:

- Floral Sun Dress
- Maxi Dress
- Cardigan Wrap
- Denim Shorts
- Loose Cotton Shorts
- Hiking shorts
- Linen Capris
- Light shawl for cold nights
- Two Bathing Suits
- Woven Day Bag
- Sunglasses
- Comfy Hiking Sneakers
- Short Hiking Socks
- Strappy flats
- My Favorite Crocs Sandals!
- Espadrille Heels
- All packed up in my Tommy Bahama luggage
For two weeks on the islands, this should do the trick, even though it’s light. After all, I’ll be spending most of the time in those bathing suits!

Helpful information. Fortunate me I discovered your site by accident, and I’m shocked why this coincidence didn’t happened in advance! I bookmarked it.
